Assistant Superintendent's Bio

My name is Josh Williams, and I began working with the ASD administrative team in the 2016-17 school year.  I work primarily with the secondary schools. As a graduate of Armstrong School District, I returned to the area after 21 years of work in public education at Saint Marys Area School District where I began my teaching career.  My educational certifications include secondary social studies, instructional technology specialist, principal K-12, and superintendent’s letter of eligibility.

I have experience as a secondary social studies teacher, director of technology, high school principal, and assistant superintendent. As an adjunct professor for Penn State University over a five year period, I taught graduate courses primarily for teachers on the integration of technology in teaching and learning. I have significant experience in grant writing for technology, conducting workshops and training on the use of technology, as well as leading technology initiatives K through 12.  The majority of my educational experience was during my nearly 13 year tenure as a high school principal.  I found my work as a high school principal very rewarding because it provided unique leadership opportunities, and greater opportunities to make a difference with both kids and teachers.

Establishing and cultivating relationships with school community members has been important to me throughout my career. I am thankful that I learned early in my career to be a team player through my participation in various stakeholder committees for program development related dual enrollment, career exploration, technology, and community service opportunities for students.  I know that it is difficult for students to succeed without parental and community involvement. I think that partnerships with parents, community business leaders, students, teachers, or support staff are best developed by making yourself accessible, visible, and by listening.

I live in Armstrong School District with my wife of 31 years.  I look forward to working closely with all school community members throughout this year and the coming years to provide our kids the best educational opportunities and guidance so they may reach their potential both as students and as people.
