School Closings and Delays

Armstrong School District

November 20, 2025

Winter Weather Plan 2025-2026

As colder months approach, we want to ensure all families understand how weather decisions are made and where to find updates throughout the winter season.

📌 How Delay & Closure Decisions Are Made

Our goal is always student safety first.

Who is involved?

  • Superintendent
  • Director of Transportation
  • Five district bus contractors
  • Consultation with Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PENNDOT)
  • Surrounding district superintendents

Contributing factors

  • Wind chill
  • Road safety
  • School infrastructure

I make the decision to delay or cancel school after careful consultation with our Transportation Department. The Director of Transportation connects with our five bus contractors, and neighboring districts to assess conditions across our region. Because ASD covers a large geographic area, weather can vary significantly from one community to another. Even if conditions appear safe in your neighborhood, other parts of the district may be experiencing dangerous weather.

Please know that every decision is made with student safety as our top priority. We also understand that delays and cancellations can create challenges for families, please know that we do not make these choices lightly. It is important to emphasize that every decision is made on a case-by-case basis.
