West Shamokin Hosts a Special Veterans Memorial Monument Dedication

West Shamokin recently hosted a remarkable Veterans Day program, where they dedicated a brand new Veterans Memorial Monument. The event took place on November 9th, and it was made possible thanks to the generous contributions of local businesses and individuals who donated their time and money to make this project a reality.

We were honored to have approximately 150 veterans attending both the morning and afternoon Veterans Day programs. It was an overwhelming show of support for these courageous individuals who have served our country with honor and dedication.

Our talented sixth-grade students from Lenape Elementary played a significant role, delivering heartfelt speeches that introduced the band, chorus, and other performances. In addition, all students at Lenape Elementary showcased their artistic talents by creating beautiful artwork that adorned the building. They also prepared personalized pictures, poems, and messages to express their gratitude to the veterans in attendance.

Adding to the patriotic ambiance was a remarkable "Wall of Honor" created by our dedicated PTO. This touching display featured thoughtfully submitted photographs sent in by students who have family members who are veterans.

The program itself was truly memorable. Troop 670 from our local Boy Scout organization proudly presented the colors as veterans walked into the venue. The talented Lenape Elementary Chorus performed an inspiring rendition of "The Star-Spangled Banner," filling everyone's hearts with pride.

It didn't stop there. The symphonic band delivered a marvelous "The Tempest" performance by Robert W. Smith, showcasing their incredible musical abilities despite being only fifth- and sixth-graders.

To conclude this unforgettable event, there was a touching video presentation featuring photos of local veterans set to the patriotic tune of "God Bless America." It honored those who bravely served our nation while reminding us of their sacrifices.

Above all else, this entire program aimed to convey appreciation, respect, and support for our veterans. By inviting them to the event, personally thanking them, and organizing a donation drive to assist local veterans in need, West Shamokin's students truly demonstrated their unwavering commitment to honoring those who protect our freedoms.
