Copy of Professional Development 2022-2023

The Comply platform will be used to track, requests, and account for all professional development and required clearance activities.  However, there will be Google signup forms for some professional development offerings so these pd items can be created and prepopulated with participant lists in Comply.  For example, technology training sessions conducted by ASD Instructional Technology Coaches will require sign up via Google forms in similarity to last year.  


MEDBRIDGE is again available for appropriate personnel to provide flex inservice hour professional development options. MEDBRIDGE certificates or other non-district sponsored professional development choices for these personnel should be submitted via the Your Choice Menu options noted under Option 4 below.


September Flex PD Options for Classroom Teachers:


Option 1: Required Menu


PDE required training at various intervals.  Depending on when you last took these trainings, you may or may not need to complete them this school year. 

 

NOTE: If you need to complete this training, it has been assigned to you and will be found in Comply under the “My Compliance Items” menu at the left of the screen after logging in.


  • ACT 126 Mandatory training on child abuse recognition (3 hrs)
  • ACT 71 Suicide awareness/prevention training (4 hrs)

These professional development items within Comply have integrated links for available online training resources to complete them.


NOTE: if your ACT 126 and ACT 171 training is current, these hours may be used under other options at your choosing.

 

Option 2: Technology Menu


All teachers are expected to complete a minimum of 4 hours training under this menu, but may elect to complete as many as they so choose.* These training sessions were developed and will be conducted by ASD Instructional Technology Coaches.  The sessions were created based on teacher feedback, and will include the following:


  • All sessions will be 1 hr. 

  • The first session offered this year is a “techxploration” training to showcase the content software platforms that are and will be available for teacher use.

  • Follow-up tech training sessions will be training specific to the best use of those platforms
    • Nearpod
    • Brainpop
    • Kahoot
    • Discovery Education 
    • IXL
      • Attendance will be taken for each session and a list of attendees will be sent to the Human Resource Department.
      • Within Comply a compliance item will be assigned to the attendee and a reminder email will be sent when it is available.
Access the Comply Compliance item to obtain credit by completing the Professional Development Feedback Questionnaire.
2. Select "My Compliance Items" from the menu on the left.
3. Locate the training that you attended, IE. "FLEX Hours - Nearpod Training Session - September 12, 2022"
4. Complete the required questionnaire and submit for final approval.

Additional time under the Technology Menu

  • 1 hr of technology professional development may be used for lesson design time.  Teachers that participate in one or more follow up follow-up tech training sessions with our tech coaches on the content platforms listed above may choose to use 1 hr of design time on their own.   
 

One form for submission under this option can be found in Comply under “REQUESTS”, “available requests” at the left of the screen after logging in.
 
1. FLEX HOURS Post Technology Training Session Lesson Plan Submission
 
  • EXAMPLE: you may attend the initial Techxploration training session (1 hr).  In the following weeks, you may elect to attend the training sessions on Kahoot (1hr) and Nearpod (1 hr) offered by our tech coaches. It would be your option to complete the FLEX Hours Post Technology Training Session Lesson Plan Submission form (1 hr) for lessons that incorporate Kahoot and Nearpod. If completed for both, this would comprise 5 total FLEX hours.
 
 

*SCHEDULED DATES FOR TECH TRAINING SESSIONS FOR THE FIRST HALF OF THE YEAR FOR EACH BUILDING ARE CURRENTLY BEING CREATED AND WILL BE POSTED SOON.  THESE SESSIONS WILL BE CONDUCTED IN SIMILARITY TO LAST SCHOOL YEAR.  A Google sign up form for training sessions will be available.


Option 3: Department/Team Menu


All departments have a minimum of 7 hours of flex inservice time and 6 hours of scheduled inservice time (consisting of built-in two hour delays in the current school calendar) devoted to department professional development projects.  Department heads are expected to work with their department members and other appropriate administrators to establish planned use of this time.  These activities may include the following:


  • Targeted professional development selected by dept. members

  • Curriculum review and writing

  • Dept. mtg/co-planning

  • Several members of a department working as a team on one or more of these topics 

  • Other as approved

Department heads will be working with members to develop these activities over the first weeks of school.

1. FLEX HOURS AND ACT 48 Approval for DEPARTMENT/TEAM MENU Professional Development

 
            NOTE: each dept. member participating in a given event or project needs complete this form.  Information may be shared/copied/pasted as it will be the same for all.  Individual completion of the form is needed to ensure proper accounting of hours. 
 

Option 4: Your Choice Menu


  • All teachers are allotted up to maximum of 4 hours of  individual professional development choice in line with your teaching assignment (i.e. EdWeb Webinar, Webinars on various platforms used in the district (IXL, Brainpop, Nearpod, Discovery Education, Kahoot), PSEA webinars, IU trainings/webinars, etc.

  • Teachers may choose to use individual choice time as a part of any other option.  For example, if the department has established a pd project that will need more time than available, dept. members can choose to use their individual professional development choice time for the dept. project.

1. FLEX HOURS AND ACT 48 for YOUR CHOICE MENU– Request FLEX AND ACT 48 Hours for Non-District Sponsored Event
 
2. FLEX HOURS ONLY for YOUR CHOICE MENU– Request FLEX Hours for a Non-District Sponsored Event for which the provider submitted Act 48 hours for you
 

*Option 5: Requests outside of these options?


Teachers may request to use professional development time outside of these options.  Those requests will be reviewed and possibly discussed prior to any decision made on the request.  These requests may be submitted  through Comply via the Flex Hours Pre-approval and Follow-up Form  found in Comply under “REQUESTS”, “available requests” at the left of the screen after logging in.

1. FLEX HOURS Pre-Approval and Follow-Up for requests not listed on the district professional development page.


Example: If you have been a frequent user of one of the named software content platforms, you may seek to pursue use of this time to develop your skills at a deeper level.  If you have an alternative proposal for what you believe will serve your pd needs better, you may submit that request through Comply via the Flex Hours Pre-approval and Follow-up Form.
