school safety is something that is important for everyone we are going to spend some time reviewing step you can take to protect yourself your classmates and the community to help prevent violence Google say that something isn't right what to do if you think something bad could happen there are steps you can take to protect yourself your classmate and the community and to help prevent violence today you will learn how to say something to keep yourself and others safe step one is to see something of thought feeling statements and behaviors that show a change in someone or show that they might need help here are examples of warning signs isolation is not wanting to be around other people or not wanting to do the things that they used to like bullying is intentionally being mean to others fear is being afraid all the time sadness being sad all the time we're telling you how sad they are sing scary things is making threats talking about weapons or hurting themselves or other people threat is any communication with an intent to harm it can be direct or through someone or something else like social media many warning signs signals and threats can be found on social media these can include pictures videos or written post while many can be found on social media they can also occur through everyday interactions who is to say something if you see or hear a threat or warning sign take action immediately say something and seek help so what is the difference between saying something and helion sing something is when there is a concern for safety the problem is important you think someone needs help you're trying to protect yourself and others for an adult might need to intervene to help telling on someone is when you are trying to get someone in trouble when you might see it as a gain for yourself or you are trying to get attention it is important to know who to say something to can be a trusted adult who can help such as a parent teacher guidance counselor school psychologist religious leader a principal or a coach please remember that if it isn't emergency call 911 right away when you say something remember gather as much information and facts as you can if what you heard was spoken write it down be sure to let the trusted adults why you were worried once you say something to an adult you don't help you make a report if you don't feel comfortable talking to an adult you can make a tip anonymously through the safe to say APA website it will be up to your school what the next steps are remember if it is an immediate emergency make sure to call 911 right away remember schools are safe but there's always more we can do make them safe
