Expectations for Canvas

The templates were meant to provide consistency and clarity for students.  After much discussion on this topic and input from faculty members, it is clear that this need can be addressed provided the following requirements are met.  If your Canvas page setup meets the following requirements, the use of one of the templates is your choice.

  1. Your Canvas should have weekly dates identified.
    1. Example: Week of September 13, Chapter 3, or September 13-17, Chapter 3, etc.
    2. Weekly content should be divided into daily.
  2. The content and organization of your modules can remain the same.
    1. If you already posted daily content/assignments, keep doing it.
    2. If your daily assignments are embedded within a slide presentation, keep doing it.
  3. Daily learning targets should be clearly stated and visible.
  4. Your current weekly module should be at the top of the page.
    1. Publish modules in keeping with pacing of the course, i.e. all modules for the year should not now be visible on the student side.
  5. Review procedures for accessing course materials in Canvas with your students
  6. Add your building principal(s) as an observer(s) in your classes.

Additional items:

  1. You do not have to take attendance via Canvas. It is optional. However, if we go remote, you must take attendance in some manner and then record it into Skyward.
  2. Your lesson plan is embedded in the work and assignments you post for that week, so you do not need to repost it.  Some teachers use an announcement with a weekly agenda - this can serve as your lesson plan.
